Back From the Trail

I emerged from the wilderness muddy, blistered and exhausted yesterday, having hiked the first 22 miles of the Northville-Lake Placid Trail. The trip was difficult due to the effects of all our recent wet and windy weather: All the streams and bogs were higher than normal, mud was abundant, and fallen trees blocked the trail in many, many locations.

Check out the photos in the gallery at left, and be sure to read the captions for details.

Great pix Bill! But where is the Booze?  No libations?

The libations were limited to a single flask of Powers Irish Whiskey. Beer is just too heavy to be hauling it through the woods. Can you imagine carrying a 12-pack for 22 miles (in addition to a tent, sleeping bag, wet clothes, food, gear, etc.)? I must admit that I considered carrying a single can of beer with me, but when it came time to load up the backpack, I realized I didn't have any cans of beer in the house. Doh!
